Deutsch lernen am KON
Wenn Ihr in Deutschland an einer Hochschule studieren wollt, benötigt ihr als Zugangsvoraussetzung ein gewisses Maß an Deutschkenntnissen – genauer gesagt, das so genannte B2-Niveau.

Seit 2015 kooperieren wir mit der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg im Bereich des Deutschlernens und bieten euch einen ganz besonderen Kurs an: „Deutsch im Berufsfeld Musik“.
Ihr lernt in sechs bzw. zehn Monaten in kleinen, internationalen Gruppen Deutsch mit Blick auf das Musikstudium – das heißt, ihr lernt die deutsche Sprache mit Fokus auf genau den Wortschatz und die Grammatik, die ihr im Berufsfeld Musik benötigt. So machen wir euch sprachlich fit für alle denkbaren Situationen in eurem Alltag als Musikstudentin und Musikstudent in Deutschland: an der Hochschule, bei Konzerten und Auftritten, im Umgang mit Dozentinnen und Dozenten und vielem mehr.
Dabei verlassen wir gemeinsam immer wieder mal das Klassenzimmer und zeigen euch Hamburg! Wir unternehmen Entdeckungstouren durch das historische Zentrum oder in den Hafen, besuchen das Komponistenviertel, die berühmte Elbphilharmonie oder die charmante Laeiszhalle, und probieren typisch deutsche Spezialitäten auf einem der zauberhaften Weihnachtsmärkte in der Innenstadt.

Lerning German at KON
The German saying “vor der Kür kommt die Pflicht“ is also well known in English as “business before pleasure”. When it comes to learning a language, we at Hamburger Konservatorium believe that there doesn’t have to be anything business-like about it. Our course “German for musicians” gives you the opportunity to gain a thorough knowledge of the language fundamentals in a way that is truly enjoyable, providing the perfect complement to your musical studies.
The course has been specially designed to incorporate a range of real-life, music-based situations, equipping you with a set of practical language competencies to use both in and outside the classroom. You will be encouraged from day one to take an active participation in classes, developing new ways to express your passion for music, your sources of learning inspiration and your professional ambitions.
For all foreign language Academy students who have not yet reached B2 Level, the ‘German for musicians’ is a mandatory course. The course is also open to students from other music institutions in Hamburg.

Course Details
- Comprehensive and interactive instruction on the four central elements of reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Thorough training in all grammatical topics
- Specialist course content designed to complement musical studies: specific vocabulary – roll-playing tasks in typical musical situations – exploration of themes such as musical inspiration, professional goals and musical careers

Application Process
Based on the level of your German skills at the time of applying to the Academy, you will be automatically enrolled into the relevant course level and will continue to attend until you have reached the required level of language competency for your study programme:
Bachelorstudium Musik in Praxis und Lehre: B2
Künstlerisches Grundstudium: B1
Once you have reached your required level, you can then take an exam for a recognised language certificate, for example the Goethe Institut, TestDaF or Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang. The tests aren’t conducted at Hamburger Konservatorium, but you will be given information about how to register with your chosen external test centre during the course.
